Training & Volunteering
Training & Volunteering
We rely on our incredible volunteer crew to help run our canal boating and paddlesport projects and ensure that our service users are safe, supported and get the most out of their time with us.
As Camden’s Paddle UK-affiliated club and National Community Boats Association training centre we offer a range of volunteering initiatives, formal accreditation and progressive coaching / mentoring pathways for ages 14+, enabling people from all walks of life to get involved, learn new skills and help others enjoy the unique benefits of boating and being on the waterway.
Our five Trustees also volunteer their time to oversee strategy, finance and governance to keep The Pirate Castle shipshape.
A hearty “Thank You!” to you all!

Training
The Pirate Castle is an accredited training centre for both Paddle UK and the NCBA (National Community Boats Association). As well as providing ongoing training and development for our volunteers and instructors, we also offer accredited training courses to the general public at competitive rates.
So, whether you’re looking to join our amazing volunteer crew, or looking to gain qualifications for your own professional development, The Pirate Castle’s here for you!
Volunteering
We’re always looking for more volunteers to join our Pirate Crew. All of our volunteers are enhanced DBS-checked and we offer training in First Aid, Disability Awareness and Safeguarding to promote best-practice and ensure that we provide first-class services. As well as our core Canal Boating and Paddlesports projects, we are always interested in hearing from people interested in volunteering in other areas such as leafleting, events and skilled specialists.
